Introducing BLNDN

BLNDN, finally a hair-care line designed specifically for blonde and grey hair.

BLNDN was born out of pure necessity

From their website:

Damaged, dull, dry and lifeless locks were a constant problem for us. As chemically lightened blondes, we knew that bleaching our hair caused damage. We also knew we weren’t going to stop. What we didn’t know was that we weren’t the only ones dealing with these problems.

It’s called oxidation. It turns out that as we age our hair actually bleaches itself from the inside out – which is why it turns gray and the structure of the hair changes – becoming damaged, dull and dry. So, whether you lighten by choice or your hair lightens as you age, oxidation is happening to you

The BLNDN complex is a combination of naturally derived ingredients that are clinically proven to combat the damage caused by oxidation – whether though chemical lightening or natural graying. We address the issues at the structural level and bring your hair back to health.

Now available at Body Bliss Salon and Spa, ask your stylist if BLNDN is right for you.

Has the dryness of winter left your skin feeling less than loved? Do you feel like you can’t drink enough water to keep your skin hydrated? Perhaps it’s time to change up your skincare routine during these winter months. It is never too early to start using an anti-aging cream, especially one that can help undo the damage of sun damage and fine lines and wrinkles, with the power of all natural products: plant stem cells.

The Power of Nature

The MAXTM contains plant stems cells; something that not many anti-aging lines can boast. Using plant stem cells in the MAXTM products means a higher quality of skin care. It means that naturally occurring extracts help restore the balance of your skin, giving it a chance to breathe. Apple stem cell serum has been shown to protect and preserve skin cells in clinical studies. Just like the fruit that it is taken from, apple stem cells defend against dry, brittle skin and help naturally retain moisture.

An ‘Apple’ a day keeps the Dr. away

Using our daily, chemical free and gentle  MAXTM stem cell facial cleanser can help you restore your skin’s shine to its natural glow. The stem cells in all of the MAXTM products are put there to help nourish your skin from the inside out. The herbaceous alpine stem cells used in all of the MAXTM products are no joking matter. Knock off Know How- Part 3

This is third and final part in our series in product diversion. We have already covered the great lengths that professional product companies go through to keep their products off the shelves of grocery stores and online. Also, discussed that by purchasing the products from outside of the salon you may not actually be getting what you paid for.

In this third installment we will cover the most important reason you should always buy your professional hair-care and skincare from your local salon and spa.

The biggest reason being that you are supporting a local business. In addition to products being a stream of revenue for our salon and spa, the more product we sell the more education we receive. Many product lines, including the ones we carry at Body Bliss Salon & Spa, have loyalty programs. The programs allow us to build points and redeem those points for product samples, which we can pass onto our clients, or we can redeem them for education. Education could include a product representative coming to our salon or us traveling to their academy location to learn all the latest trends, techniques or new products about the hit the market.

We want to say a special thank you to our clients for supporting us and for trusting us for your hair care and skin care needs. We will continue to bring you, what we believe to be, the best products available on the market.

Knock off Know How-Part 2

Continuing our series on product diversion:

The professional brand products that end up in grocery stores and online are likely to be old or completely counterfeit. In a blog by Courtney of Fry Sauce and Grits, an Eclectic Lifestyle Blog, she purchased identical products from both her professional salon and from Amazon. She compared the products in her article and here is some of her findings.

“I had an experience this last week that made me really mad, sad, and upset. I recently got a haircut and needed to buy some new hair products because buying the right kind of product for your hair makes or breaks the way you can style it. Because I was trying to get the best deal I could find, I resorted to buying two professional hair care products from Amazon. Well I’m here to tell you that the two products I bought from Amazon were total fakes or counterfeited products.”

“The mousse I bought online looked like it was diluted and within a few minutes the mousse broke down or evaporated and left a wet spot on the black paper. The mousse I bought in the professional salon stayed that way for over an hour until I threw away the paper. So who knows what kind of crap is in the online bought mousse!”

Dehydration or Dry Skin?

Does your skin feel tight, dull, itchy or sensitive? If you answered yes to one or all of these, then chances are that you are suffering from either dry or dehydrated skin. People often believe that “dry” and “dehydrated” are interchangeable, both names for flaky, dry skin. But the truth is they aren’t, and we’ll explain why.

Skin Type vs. Skin Condition
First off, there’s a difference between a skin type and a skin condition. Skin type is what you’re born with, such as oily skin caused by over productive sebaceous (oil) glands. A skin condition is caused by outside influences like diet, environment, stress or the use of the wrong products. Some examples of a skin condition would be psoriasis, eczema, rosacea or even pregnancy mask. It’s helpful to determine whether your dry skin stems from a skin condition (e.g. dehydration) or your skin type, because that will determine your treatment plan.

Dehydrated Skin

Dehydration falls into the skin condition category. This happens when your skin is lacking in water. This typically occurs during the cold, dry winter months. But poor diet, wrong makeup/skincare products and the environment could also be a factor. When the skin is dehydrated, the sebaceous glands produce even more oil in order to compensate for the lack of water. This can make the skin feel both oily and dry at the same time, which can cause irritation, breakouts and rough, dry patches to form.

The best way to treat dehydrated skin is to up your water intake, especially after working-out or spending time in the sun. Try to eat water-rich foods like watermelon, cucumbers and zucchini. Also, use the Vital C hydrating enzyme masque. The exfoliating enzymes will slough away the dead skin cells while injecting hydrating anti-oxidants, vitamins and minerals.

Dry Skin

If you have dry skin type, then your sebaceous glands are not producing enough sebum (oil). It’s genetics, and it’s not just your face that is dry either, your skin is dry all over—hands, legs, scalp etc. Moisturizer is soaked up rather quickly when applied, making liquid makeup application very difficult.

Dry skin is more prone to premature aging, which is why you’ll want an oil-based product that will both moisturize and gently exfoliate. The Vital C hydrating anti-aging serum uses oil-soluble Vitamin C, as well as Vitamins A and E mixed with powerful anti-oxidants that will leave your skin looking healthy and hydrated.

The Misunderstood Manicure

Do you find yourself saying “My nails are too short to get a manicure?” It is often misunderstood that you have to have long nails in order to treat yourself. Well, I am here to change that way of thinking. Believe it or not, manicures are one of the best things you can do for your nails. Not only will you leave feeling beautiful, but it will leave your hands looking younger. Our hands can give away how old a person really is, so why not take care of them sooner rather than later!

The nails need some pampering in order to grow and continue to look healthy. When receiving a Manicure the cuticles are moisturized and pushed back. Dry, unconditioned cuticles are the number 1 reason for constant nail breaking. The nails are also filed to the appropriate length to get rid of any separation of the nails or breakage.

So next time you say your nails need to be longer in order to get a manicure; get a manicure that way your nails will grow longer!
