As a salon owner, hairstylist and educator, Sarah Boulton combined her many passions and skills into a career she’s always wanted. Growing up in Port Huron, Michigan, as the only child of hard-working, entrepreneurial parents, a strong work ethic comes naturally to her.
Sarah’s dolls and Barbies all got haircuts, she did hair and makeup for friends going to prom and she practiced hairbow placement on her dad as he relaxed in his recliner.
During her senior year of high school, Sarah dual enrolled in the Paul Mitchell Academy-Great Lakes, earned her cosmetology license in 2005 and began working as a stylist. It was also in high school that she began dating her husband Zachary, with whom she rode the school bus since 5th grade.
When Zak and his parents moved to North Carolina in 2007, Sarah moved, too. She worked as a commission stylist for Ulta and JCPenney salons to build up her clientele and then became an independent contractor/booth renter stylist.
The opportunity to own a salon and spa came in 2013 when she partnered with Samantha Graupman, who founded Body Bliss two years earlier and wanted to grow into a full-service business. Together they created Body Bliss Salon & Spa at its current location of 10520 Ligon Mill Rd, Suite 120 in Wake Forest.
In 2018, Sarah purchased Samantha’s ownership in the spa, allowing Samantha to continue her passion as a licensed manicurist and massage therapist for Body Bliss, while having more time to pursue her interests outside of work.
Sarah is responsible for the hiring of employees, payroll, ordering supplies, day-to-day operations and marketing of the salon. She not only teaches her own stylists about the products and services offered, but also teaches color classes to salons in North Carolina and South Carolina as a Keune Haircosmetics educator since 2017. Prior to that she was an educator for Keratin Complex.
She enjoys the business side of owning a salon and has taken business administration classes through Wake Technical Community College since 2007.
Zak and Sarah have been married since 2009. Together they enjoy hiking, CrossFit and living a healthy lifestyle. In 2016, their son Ryder was born, joining two fur babies—Brooke, a Jack Russell terrier mix and Oakley, an Australian shepherd.
